Course Description

This program has been developed to educate nurses and nursing leaders in innovative strategies to address two failing systems in nursing: nursing culture and work environment. The workshop aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to foster a supportive nursing culture that values and prioritizes each individual nurse. It will focus on emotional intelligence as a tool to improve nursing retention, decrease stress & burnout, and improve the patient experience.

Additionally, the workshop will explore the use of the B.A.N.K Methodology and personality science, discuss practical applications for nursing so we can increase retention, decrease stress and burnout, and improve the patient experience. The goal is to engage participants in learning and discussion about innovative tools and resources that can assist in nursing culture transformation. The workshop is designed to bring about tangible change in nursing culture and work environment by providing participants with practical strategies that can be implemented in their workplaces.

Behavioral Objectives:

Upon completion of this offering participants will be able to:
  • Identify the top 3 reasons nursing are quitting their jobs
  • Discuss 3 significant effects of toxic nursing culture
  • Explain the role of the individual nurse in transforming nursing culture
  • Identify their own personality traits and communication style
  • Recall 3 characteristics of each personality type within the B.A.N.K. Methodology
  • Discuss how application of personality science can promote a positive and supportive nursing culture
  • Identify 3 Barriers To Effective Communication in Nursing
  • Discuss the relationship between emotional intelligence and personality
  • Identify 5 strategies for communicating with influence to empower teams and improve nursing culture and patient outcomes
  • Recall the mission of Nurses Feed Their Young
  • Identify tools & resources to assist with transforming nursing culture
  • Formulate a 3 step plan to begin to transform nursing culture in your unit

About

Teresa Sanderson helps nurse entrepreneurs & hospice liaisons get in front of medical and community referral sources so they can serve more clients. She launched a hospice and grew it to $3M with just a $6K investment using only a nursing continuing education program as a vehicle for marketing. An RN for more than 30 years, she is a Certified Case Manager and was formerly a Certified Hospice & Palliative Nurse.

Teresa maintains an active Nursing Continuing Education Program accredited by the Kansas State Board Of Nursing and serves as a Nursing Continuing Education Consultant, a Marketing Coach to nurse entrepreneurs and as a Hospice Marketing Consultant to organizations across the US. She is the founder of Nurses Feed Their Young, a movement to improve nursing culture and work environment.

She resides on a homestead in rural Northeast Kansas with her husband, livestock and honeybees.
